Bhajans !
Songs of Love and Joy – Bhajans!
Traditional Indian Bhajans and Kirtans – that means jubilant love for the divine aspect of existence.
Two monks of an Indian Monastery (Omkareshwar / Narmada in Madhya Pradesh), both wonderful and
dedicated musicians and singers, come back to Austria on their third European tour to share their joy of
singing with us.
Swami Gurusharanananda is the young Indian headmaster of the school which our society DANA
MUDRA — The Giving Hand supports since 2005.
Swami Mangalananda hails from an American
family of musicians and has been a monk for more than thirty years.
The instruments used are the Indian harmonium (two of them in duet!), dholak and tablas. A boy from the
school, who is an expert dholak player, is part of the group. The Swamis will also inform us about the
spiritual background of the songs and share some anecdotes of wisdom from India's saints and sages.
The head of the Omkareshwar Ashram who initiated the school project in 2001 is Swami Kedarnath, a
disciple of the great Bengali Saint Anandamayi Ma (1896 – 1982). So, following Ma's teaching of seeing
and loving God in everybody, the monks dedicate their energy and enthusiasm to the uplifting of those
poor village children — and with great success!
A touching video about the old place of pilgrimage Omkareshwar, its children and the school will be
shown.
The proceeds of the events are, of course, destined for the Omkareshwar school to enable as many
children as possible to break the circle of poverty.
As it happened in the past years, Swami Gurusharanananda and Swami Mangalananda are sure bound to
charm the audience with their highly inspiring songs and music!
